fml: How Carson McCullers saved my life - dramaturg

fml, a play by Sarah Gubbins and directed by Kym Longhi, explored the experience of growing up gay in the Midwest. The University of Minnesota’s production of this play attempted to situate this play within the conversation on gender identity was well, considering the use of pronouns in the play. That thread did not pull through, but this production was able to begin to engage the department in the community surrounding the institution and the content of the play. As dramaturgs, we contextualized the performance through past productions, relevancy in communities around us, and in the grander narrative of sexuality and gender identity.

Dramaturgy by Matthew Boerst, David Melendez, Michael Valdez, Rachel Lawhead and Corey Baesler.
